Multiply your audience engagement with video
Video Promos
Music videos or high impact message videos for use on social media and websites. These are usually between a minute and three minutes long.
Video Idents
Brief clips that act as an ‘animated logo’ in other pieces such as trailers, promos etc. Usually a few seconds long and rendered in HD or 4K.
Modern Video creation is not just a matter of having the right hardware to shoot the pictures… it’s also about having the experience of using the editing and VFX software.
At Kernow Design, whether the job requires drone footage, time-lapse film, snappy editing or the latest effects and transitions, we can meet your needs.
Logos
Your business in one image
Your logo is a distillation of how you want to present your company to the world. It is usually the first thing a customer will see of your brand. Maybe it’s in a brochure, on their internet browser. On the side of a van. On your business card.
It’s important that you get a logo which both represents what you want to tell the world about your company and that looks good.
We design logos that are for use in ALL situations, from a tiny 32 pixel icon on someone’s browser tab up to a multiple square metre advertising hoarding.
Once we’ve made your logo, the source files are yours to use in any scenario you need. We are sure that you will be so pleased with our service that you will want us to use your logo in a variety of new customer-facing media.

Company Branding
Every element of your company’s visual identity is involved in branding. This means your logo, the colour of your company van, the letterhead on your invoices, the colour and style of text in your brochure and on your website. The list goes on.
What can good branding do for your company?
- Increase public awareness and recognition of all your adverts/messages
- Increase the value of the business to investors and as perceived within your industry
- Increase trust among customers and suppliers
- Increase employee pride and satisfaction
So what are the elements of good branding?
There are several things we consider; take a look below:
Font
Most people are aware that certain fonts, such as Comic Sans or Times New Roman can create a specific effect or impression.
In this image the fonts of the easyJet logo and the City of London street signage have been swapped.
The cool classical lines and controlled serif of Albertus Medium look very out of place on the warm orange background of the EasyJet plane tail. The light-hearted, fun, fat curves of Cooper Black look entirely wrong on a street sign in the City of London. It’s a matter of using the correct font for the impression you want to create.
Here are some specialist fonts that lend themselves quite obviously to particular uses.
Custom Fonts & Kerning
It is not uncommon to take a basic font for a logo and then to alter it for specific purposes. In the example below the font, Source Sans, has been adjusted in several ways.
The tracking (width of letters) and kerning (gap between letters) have been adjusted to create a sense of stability. The top bars on the S and T have been extended to create a “Roof” over the heads of the remaining letters, symbolising the goal of Sheltertruck to provide emergency housing for homeless people.
These special fonts are, however, not much use for inline text. The ultimate goal is to preserve readability for large amounts of text. So, the body or paragraph text will need to be a far more conservative choice. Here are some of the fonts used on popular websites.
As with any design question, there are a lot of considerations to bear in mind. Through a process of consultation, we will ensure that you get the best look for your site and logo needs.
Colour
Colour plays a huge role in branding. According to Kissmetrics:
This shade was chosen specifically as red stands out; it appears that this is something hardwired into our brains.
It would be very hard to imagine a can of Cola that was blue. Attempts to use other colours for the mainbrand have failed, so strong is the association of this shade with the brand in people’s minds.
There are a wide range of psychological associations that have been determined for each of the main colours and it is worth bearing these in mind when creating a brand:

Just as important as the key, primary colour for the website are the accent colours. Which ones work well together to enhance the impression you wish to make?
You may have noticed that our website relies primarily on black and white (representing simplicity, elegance and power) with orange (representing creativity). We at Kernow Design will help you hit on the perfect combination of colours to represent your brand.
LAYOUT
This topic is one that is often overlooked in branding.
Essentially, layout in branding terms is a description of the use of background images, spacing of elements and whitespace in general to achieve an effect.
There is a tendency to want to fill any communication, be it a poster, website or leaflet, with as much information as possible. This is tied to the idea that any of the screen or paper “real estate” that is not used is wasted.
Certainly, there are various points that you will need to make, but whitespace, for example, makes sure that your messages do not crowd each other out.
For this reason, we at Kernow Design believe that layouts should provide as much space as possible and practical – increasing the following.
- Neatness – this creates a good, professional impression.
- Legibility – users can read text more easily if it occupies clear space.
- Impact – calls to action work more clearly when they are easily distinguishable from their background.
- Modernity – use of clear space creates a minimalist, modern feel.
The use of space in branding should be very tightly controlled.
Sotheby’s International Realty is a company that insists on complete control of how their franchisees represent their brand.
This can be seen in the spacing around the main logo in the snapshot below, taken from their franchisee manual.
This attention to detail is ensuring that their logo remains clear and their brand image is protected.
The style manual itself is interesting to those who want to see the lengths large, prestigious organisations will go to to protect their brand image. It can be visited here.
At Kernow Design we apply similar rigour to our design process – ensuring that your brand is represented as something valuable, and worth protecting.
